Day One, Sunday, June 8th

My first day. I can hardly believe that when I go to bed tonight, I will be in ... California.

Day one began at 4:00 AM when I needed to get up in order to get to the airport by 5:00 AM for a 6:00 flight. Flew to Los Angles in order to get to San Fransisco. The day was spent in San Francisco, mostly in meetings. But we ended the night at a dinner reception at the Japanese Consul General's "home" in San Fransisco. His home is an old mansion built one hundred years ago, and is perched high on a hill. It had a great view of San Fransisco Bay from Alcatraz Island to the Golden Gate Bridge. The dinner buffet was, of course, Japanese. I made my first chop stick blunder when the very slippery piece of eel sushi landed on the table (inches from my plate). But that social faux pas was not as bad as the one made by the lady next to me. Her plate slipped and she dumped her food into my lap. Oh well, clean clothes are over-rated.

Gosh, I can hardly believe that when I go to bed tomorrow night, I will be in ... Japan!

Hey Mr. Lahr,
Wow!!! Sounds like you can't wait, don't worry, i wouldn't be able to wait either. Haha!!! So by this time you are on your way to Japan or you are there, which might not be possible. Seems as if you had a great dinner last night, but not everyone is perfect when they eat, everyone may drop something. We all can't wait to hear about your next blog, we are very curious and want to know what your up to over there!!! Have fun!!! =]

Sincerely,
Breanna D. and Alex A.

Hello Seinor Lahr,

I am glad that you are enjoying your time in San Fransico. I am sorry about yoy clothing but i guess you are right about clean close being over rated, I say this becuase I have to clean my Back ward every day and no matter what I do to keep them clean they get dirty. So I guess the term if you can't beat them jion them comes into play. Keep writing to your fellow students we are all excited to her from you.

Hi Mr. Lahr,
I hope you have fun on your trip and learn a lot about the japanese culture. When in someone's home take off your shoes and always bow to your elders. When you bow don't lift up your head for they may take that insulting.

Hey Mr. Lahr. If you ever go to a tea cerimony be sure that you know their traditions. They are very diffuicult to learn.

Sounds like your trip is off to a good start. Maybe your Tide Stick will take care of getting your clothes presentable after the lady's plate landed in your lap. Try to get some sleep on the flight to Japan so you won't be too tired when you arrive!
